MODULE 2. Group Activities – For Youth Workers to Facilitate
| Activity Name | Is my Screen my Mirror? |
| Purpose | This activity aims to help young people recognize the psychological motivations that lead them to use screens (e.g., need for connection, escape, fun, recognition) and to critically reflect on how these motivations affect their lives. |
| Step-by-Step Instructions | The facilitator asks participants to think about the last time they spent a lot of time on their mobile phone or computer. Then, each participant takes a card/piece of paper and writes down a word that describes how they felt before using the screen (e.g., bored, stressed, nervous). After that, they write a word describing how they felt afterwards (e.g., relaxed, calm). The facilitator creates a “circle of emotions” on the board with two categories: before and after. The young people place their cards in the appropriate category.
Group discussion:
Closing: The coordinator suggests that participants try, for one day, to consciously observe the before and after each time they use their phone. |
