Mindful Screentime Exploration Journal
We’re about to go on a journey together. Not a journey to some far-off place, but a journey back to something a little closer-you.
This journal is part of the OASIS project, a project created by people who really care about your well-being in the digital world. We know that screens are part of everyday life, but they can sometimes take over more than we realise. That’s where this journal comes in.
We’re not here to tell you to throw your phone in the sea. (Don’t worry.)
We’re here to empower you. To help you pause, reflect, and reconnect-with your time, your feelings, your choices, and the people around you.
You’ll find tools, activities, and stories that will help you:
notice how screens affect your mood and attention
build habits that actually feel good
learn how to manage screen time without guilt or rules
create your own version of a balanced digital life
This is your space. You can move through it in order or jump to what feels right for you.
You can write in the margins, doodle in the corners, or fold the pages into paper planes.
We created this journal with young people, for young people-so everything in here has been tried, tested, or suggested by people just like you. Ready?
Let’s begin!
Why Screens Are So Hard to Put Down
Have you ever picked up your phone to check one thing and realised much later that you were still scrolling? This section helps you understand why screens and apps are designed to capture your attention, how notifications and endless scrolling affect your habits, and how to start noticing your own digital patterns without guilt or judgement.
What’s Beneath My Screen Use?
Screen use is often connected to feelings and needs. In this section, you will explore what may be happening underneath the scroll — boredom, stress, loneliness, tiredness or the need for connection. You will learn to pause, identify what you are feeling and choose healthier ways to respond.
My Digital First-Aid Kit
This section gives you simple tools to use when you feel overwhelmed, distracted or pulled into automatic scrolling. Through grounding exercises, reset strategies and screen-free ideas, you will create your own “first-aid kit” for moments when you need to pause and reconnect with yourself.
Creating Change That Sticks
Real change works best when it connects to what matters to you. This section helps you explore your values, your life balance and the role screens play in your everyday routine. You will reflect on where your time goes and design small, realistic changes that feel meaningful and possible to keep.
Planning Ahead
In the final section, you will turn your reflections into action. You will set mindful screen-use goals, imagine the kind of digital life you want to build, and plan habits that support your wellbeing, relationships, sleep, focus and offline experiences.
